Literature Review#

Directions: 

This writing assignment is to be completed  in the format provided below, on separate sheets of paper.  Please type.  Each main topic shown below provides you with suggestions for the information which you should address in your written summary (but by no means prohibits the inclusion of other relevant and pertinent information).  These questions are provided to provoke critical thinking about what you have read and studied.  Your summary should be written in paragraph form, so it is more than simply answering these questions.  It is perfectly acceptable for you to provide additional insight into the article within each section.

Research Article

  1. Review of literature
    • What was the purpose of the research?
    • What were the significant points in previous studies?
    • What were the variables in the study?
  2. Method
    • What kind of subjects were in the study?
    • How many subjects were in the study?
    • What tests were used in the study?
    • What procedures were used (describe them) in the study?
  3. Results
    • What type of data analysis was used in the study?
    • What were the significant results in the study?
  4. Discussion
    • How did the researchers explain their results?
    • What problems did they find with their results?
    • What would be their future direction for research?
  5. Reaction
    • What conclusions did the author draw from the research?
    • What evidence supported the author's conclusions?
    • Are the author's conclusions consists with other things about this topic that you know and believe?  If not, what points are inconsistent?  If so, what other points of view might be held that would be inconsistent with these conclusions?

  2. Summary
    • Typically, the author is taking a position on some issue.  Identify the position/perspective in your summary.
    • Include any support which is cited/or any citations which refute the positions taken.
    • Discuss conclusions drawn by the authors.
    • Discuss your reaction/impressions of the discussion and the conclusions drawn.
