Write about your day.  What ideas are floating through your head in terms of your own story?  What ideas are floating through your head in terms of your teaching practice?

I got some ideas. I dont know if I will follow up on it. I think the biggest problem with teaching this will be the same as mine. Gettting a focus.

I just had a brainstorm about my story and I know how I am going rewrite what I've done today.

I thought the day was very interesting and presented a lot of new stuff for me.  I am wondering how to apply my new found skills in my classroom.  I have 3 very slow computers and the other necessary elements are all in the computer lab that is busy all day as a classroom.  Hope I  can figure out a solution.

My day has been wonderful! I had no clue as to what a digital story was when I first came this morning. I thought I would be overwhelmed with this technology as well as writing a story, but all is well. Now I have a million ideas now running through my head, not just on my own story but for everyday use as well. This would definately be a valuable tool in my music classroom to spice up the "not so popular" aspects of music.

I am thinking of working on a story that I have been tinkering with now for my project, or maybe tell of one of my camping trips. Either way both would turn out as something interesting. At any rate I now have the rest of the day to do a little bit more work and possible come of with a few ideas that have to do with what I am thinking of working on.

I am worried about my own story.  I am afraid that if I write something that is really personal it could be misinterpreted by others.  I would really hate to inadvertantly promote negative stereotypes about my home that I love dearly.  I may do mine on a topic that I am not emotionally invested in so that I feel more "safe".  In terms of my own teaching practices I am thinking of various ways that I can use this technology in my classes.  I am considering the possibility of having students do digital stories based on traditions or local stories that have been handed down in our area.  I could also have them do digital stories based on their own lives, but I think this technology would lend itself very well to preserving the oral tradition of many stories of our heritage.

I am thinking about doing a short story relating music's influence on my philosophy of life. This has been an important influence in my and opens music possibilities tremendously. I want to use digital stories in my class.

As teaching practice, I think this opens up so many possibilities, which is to say the digital story venue offers permission to be creative.  Since I teach a writing course, what could be better?

Students often complain they have nothing to write about, but if you can offer them the permission to tell 'thier own' story what might happen.  The ability to tell one's favorite story in both words and pictures opens up new possibilities for self-expression.

Everyone fears to some degree harsh criticism  Digital story levels the playing field.  Everyone has the ability to create a quality piece of work and if they use thier best story  oh boy!

With this in mind, I have decided to work on a small story from a time in my life when the biggest problems I faced where the pusuit and collection of insects.  One time in particular lead to a tree catching on fire and the eminate destruction of several expensive vehicles.

Rick,

I like this idea.  It is personal in that it deals with your philosophical development but doesn't get personal.  Good thinking...hope the swim helps the idea bubble up a bit.

Bart,

I cannot wait to see how this story develops.  Knowing you, it's going to be extremely ordinary and extraordinary all at the same time!

Eva,

I would love it if you would tell more about what prompted your inspiration this afternoon.  Was it something you saw or heard?

I am at a loss as to how I might seperate myself from the content of my digital story.  I would like to attempt to write a less serious piece later.
